MMA & Muay Thai updated schedule

This memorable photo of the legendary Nogueira brothers with their MMA class was taken at the Black House Team Nogueira Gym on Miramar Road when it was located across the highway from the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.

MMA and Muay Thai schedules are updated on a regular basis with an emphasis given to events involving local fighters and local gyms plus any show or event held within the confines of either San Diego or Imperial County.

Glory 53 Super Fight Series

“The Thai Terminator” Thongchai Sitsongpeenong (137-36, 46 KOs) fighting out of Thailand will headline GLORY 53 opposite local favorite Cédric “The Best” Doumbé (68-6-1, 39 KOs, fighting out of France). Thongchai, the No. 7-ranked welterweight, was last in action at GLORY 51 Rotterdam as part of the one-night welterweight contender tournament. Following a semifinal victory over Alan Scheinson, Thongchai advanced to the tournament final, where he dropped a decision to the man he is replacing, Eyevan Danenberg. Known as “Mister Cool,” Danenberg suffered an injury while training to face Doumbé, creating the opportunity for Thongchai to step in on short notice. Their updated six-fight card for GLORY 53 SuperFight Series is as follows:

Welterweight Headline Bout: Cédric Doumbé vs. Thongchai Sitsongpeenong

Middleweight No. 1 Contender Co-Headline Bout: Yousri Belgaroui vs. Jason Wilnis

Featherweight Tournament Final Bout: Winner of Bout A vs. Winner of Bout B

Welterweight Bout: Alan Scheinson vs. Mohammed Jaraya

Featherweight Tournament Semifinal Bout B: Serhii Adamchuk vs. Azize Hlali

Featherweight Tournament Semifinal Bout A: Victor Pinto vs. Buray Bozaryilmaz

GLORY 53 will stream live from Zénith de Lille on UFC FIGHT PASS at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT on Saturday, May 12.

Date: Friday, May 18

At the Four Points By Sheraton Hotel, San Diego, Calif.                                                                  At this time it looks like the ladies will rule at Epic Fighting 38

Epic Fighting has always wanted Jasmine “Tapout Queen” Pouncy (l) from Nubian MMA to compete in their cage and now for the first time, they’ll have her at Epic 38 vs. “The Attempted Killa” Miller. The young ladies will be fighting for the Epic Fighting Strawweight Title. Miller will be defending her undefeated record against her toughest opponent to date. With the majority of female opponents in San Diego avoiding Miller, the search for a worthy opponent had been extended to Los Angeles, where the “Tapout Queen” resides. After years of missing Epic Fighting events, Pouncy’s team finally relented and called for a 115 lb. match at Epic 38, no matter who the opponent. The timing couldn’t be better.

Question: Who is the real Ashlee Coffey from San Diego’s 10th Planet Ju-Jitsu and can her coach, Manolo Hurricane Hernandez, mold her into a champion? Often, women can be difficult to figure out, just like the play of light on a diamond’s multifaceted surface.

Another of the matches that everyone is looking forward to seeing is the Tina Pettigrew (left) from Catch 22 MMA facing Emily “The Warrior” Watson (right) from Modesto, Calif.
