Thursday weigh-ins for Friday’s Boxing Show at Del Mar

Thursday evening, officials from the California Athletic Commission conducted their official weigh-ins for Friday night’s Bobby D Presents “Champions of Tomorrow” Boxing Show at the Wyland Center on the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Both James “El Chocolate” Parison (15-1-0, 4 KOs) of South San Diego and Lester “El Cubanito” Gonzalez (12-6-3, 6 KOs) of the Clairemont section of San Diego by way of Havana, Cuba. Both fighters were right at the agreed upon weight of 162 pounds, Parison weighed 162 and Gonzalez 161.

Of the two, Gonzalez looked more comfortable with his present weight while Parison appeared to be gaunt or famished by the need to cut weight. For this fight card, the California Commission officials weigh the boxers three times, once at Thursday’s weigh-in, a second time, just before the fight and a third time, just after the fight.

As mentioned this a matchup of two great tacticians, a classic battle between the righty versus the lefty.

Four additional boxers weighed in:

Weighing in for their four-round, super bantamweight bout, Christian “Huevo” Bojorquez (5-0, 2 KOs) of Tijuana, who trains at the Undisputed Fitness and Training Center in San Diego’s Downtown, matched up perfectly at 122 pounds with the much shorter Pablo Cupul (6-3, 1 KO) of Merida, Yucatan, Mexico.

In the final pairing, Super Flyweight Jonathan “Johnny Boy” Quiroz of Rhino’s Boxing in Vista, CA made weight at exactly 115 pounds to match up with Christian Lorenzo of Los Angeles by way of Ensenada, B. C., Mexico.

Lorenzo currently works out/trains at the legendary Maywood Gym, where they have a ton of talent to include people like Urbano Antillon, Eric Estrada, Raymond Chacon, etc, etc.

Also on the fight card is Jonathan “Johnny Boy” Quiroz who will be making his professional debut against Christian Lorenzo of Los Angeles by way of Mexico, another up and coming boxer who is also making his pro debut. Both boxers had laudable Amateur careers.

To replace the six rounder, between 41 year-old Rosendo “El Bufalo”Alvarez of Miami, Florida, by way of Managua, Nicaragua, versus Juan Jose “Pinocho” Beltran, Jorge Marron, the event’s matchmaker announced Friday morning at 10:01 a.m. that super middleweight Loren “Rocky” Myers of Ontario, Oregon (11-14-1, 2 KOs) would be facing “Galan” Alfredo Contreras (11-13-2, 5 KOs) of Lakeside, CA by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico.

Over the past three and a half years, Myers has fought 12 times and won only once. Contreras, who has almost an identical record, has fought 11 times in that same time period and won just once.

Also, since Elizabeth Cervantes was a no show at Friday’s weigh-in, Amaris Quintana will now face Bianco Raymundo of Riverside, CA (0-5-0). This business of having opponents drop out at the last minute has been quite a trying ordeal for Quintana, who is considered a serious contender for the Female Flyweight title. To get more people interested in fighting her, she might have to start offering the people in her weight class to fight them with one hand tied behind her back.
