Press Conference to announce upcoming Camacho/Chavez fight

Today, Promoters Toscano Boxing Promotions in conjunction with Borizteca Boxing Promotions announced their joint Pay-per-View offering featuring Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr. (59-7-1 with 33 KOs) taking on the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez (107-6-2 with 85 KOs) at The Jalisco Stadium in downtown Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

In addition to the Chávez vs Camacho Jr. matchup, the organizers will also have Julio Cesar Chávez Jr., and Omar Chávez, the sons of the Mexican legend, taking on notable opponents. Several prominent people have been mentioned as Chavez Jr.’s opponent while his brother Omar “El Businessman Terremoto” Chavez (38-6-1, 25 KOs), a 5’11” tall, 31-year-old, middleweight, is set to face the 5’8″ tall Ramon “Inocente” Alvarez (28-8-3, 16 KOs) of Guadalajara who is 35-years-old. They have faced each other before, splitting the outcome.

In his opening address delivered in front of the Jai Lai Palacio, Julio Cesar Chavez made several funny comments when facing the much younger, 42-year-old Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr.: “At first I said no, because Hector Camacho Jr. is too young for me. But when they told me it was going to be a tribute to my great friend Camacho Sr., who is now in heaven, I accepted immediately. Between Mexico and Puerto Rico, there has always been this terrific rivalry and back on September 12, 1992 when we fought, Macho Camacho never bothered with me or my family. He never offended me or used any rude words and we became great friends. I love him to heaven and he knows it. Even though, now, he’s likely to get angry after the beating I’m going to give his son.”

Like Chavez, Hector “Machito” Camacho Jr. spoke in amusing terms: “In making my decision to take this fight, I too am looking at it from an historic perspective. I’m looking to get even with Chavez for that win over my Dad.” After thanking the organizers, Camacho Jr. then added: “I have been waiting for this opportunity for many years. I will be well prepared and as skinny as you like. With this fight being just a few days before the anniversary of my father’s death, it will be a very emotional time for me.”

As you might imagine that 10-round bout featuring Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is taking a bit longer to negotiate (finalized), since Chavez Jr. is a former middleweight world champion. (Updates to follow)
