Next Tijuana Boxing Show to feature Ivan Morales

Erik “Terrible” Morales’ Box Latino returns to the Auditorio de Tijuana on Monday, April 23, with a boxing card featuring undefeated southpaw Ivan “Niño Maravilla” Morales (16-0-0, 11 KOs) who just happens to be the baby brother of Erik and Diego Morales. His opponent will be Edgar “Destroyer” Martinez (9-5-0, 5 KOs) of Anahuac, Chihuahua, in a 10 rounder. When we look at Martinez’s record, we discover he usually fights as a flyweight and he’s never beaten anyone with a winning record. Plus, he’s lost five of his last eight matches.

In Morales’ last fight on February 11th of this year, he knocked Ricardo “Rocky” Armenta out in round #3 of a scheduled 8 rounder. It was Armenta’s fourth straight loss. The twenty-year old Morales is trained by his other brother, the former WBO 115 pound champion Diego “Pelucho” Morales.

In the semi-main event, one of Tijuana’s top prospects Emilio Bojorquez (20-1, 14 KOs) is set to face Alberto “La Mosca” Mendoza Martinez (16-6, 11 KOs) in an eight round junior welterweight contest.

Bojorquez, a top Baja California amateur, stopped his last two opponents, Martin Rodriguez on Saturday, April 14th and Eduardo Iniguez back on February 16th of this year.

Martinez, who is from Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, is one of those blood and guts, all or nothing fighters. Only five of his 22 fights have gone the distance.

What do these two gentleman have in common? Even though Bojorquez has the more distinguished record, you must take into account he has only faced three boxers with a winning record. Martinez on the other hand has faced nine boxers with a winning record and beaten three of them. He’s also gone up against the stiffer competition when we see names like Rosbel Montoya (16-3, 13 KOs), Ivan Pereyra (15-2), Carlos Martinez (7-0), Abdiel Ramirez (13-0-0, 12 KOs) and the son of Julio Cesar Chavez, Omar “Business Man” Chavez (28-1-1, 21 KOs) on his resume.

Also featured on the card will be local Tijuana standouts Javier “Cobra” Mendoza (16-2-1, 13 KOs) and Christian “Huevo” Bojorquez (6-0, 1 KO), San Diego’s Adrian Vargas (6-0-1, 4 KOs) and Pablo Armenta (8-1-1, 4 KOs) as well as Mexico City’s Pedro “Guerrero” Melo (7-3-1, 1 KO) and Los Mochis, Mexico’s Osvaldo “Waldo” Castro (12-4-1, 8 KOs).

Tickets will be available at the Auditorio Municipal de Tijuana ticket office and range from $15 up to $25 dollars. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. with the first bout expected to begin at 8:30 p.m.
