Mini Mike Tyson continues to impress

From Trabzon, Turkey came news the WBC Silver welterweight champion Selcuk “Mini Tyson” Aydin destroyed the tough Jo Jo Dan on Saturday night.
When someone uses the word “destroyed,” that’s a pretty demonstrative statement to make. It can mean only one thing. Dan, full name Ionut Dan Ion, most likely had to go to the nearest hospital after his fight and that’s what happened. On Sunday surgery was necessary to repair his broken jaw. It’s suspected he suffered the injury in round four and yet toughed it out for the remaining eight rounds.
The gentleman's name is Ionut Dan Ion and after the Canadians got a hold of it, it was switched to Jo Jo Dan.
Saturday’s bout was considered to be a mandatory rematch for a controversial decision that took place last June. In that match Dan’s team was so upset with the judges’ decision, they stormed out of the ring after the scores were announced and immediately filed a grievance with the WBC. One judge agreed with them and had Dan winning 116-111 while the other two had Aydin winning 114-113.
In Saturday’s contest, the 28 year-old Aydin wanted to remove all doubt and prove he was the better man. He did. His record now goes to 23-0-0-with 17 KOs while Dan of Montreal, Quebec, Canada by way of Giugiu, Romania drops to 29-2-0 with 16 KOs.
So who is this gent they call Mini Tyson? Aydin turned pro in 2006 after receiving a notice he was being suspended for 5 years from all amateur competitions for attacking a referee in the second round of his bout at the 2006 European Championships. At the time he was fighting Frank Gavin of Great Britain.
Forced to turn pro, Aydin went on a tear and won his first 15 professional fights in less than 18 months. The fifteenth win was a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Lucky Lewele on April 26, 2008 to win the vacant WBC International Welterweight title.
At 28 years of age, Selcuk Aydin feels he is now in his prime.
In his first defense on September 12, 2008, he KO’d Marat Khuzeev of Russia in the second round. March 6, 2009, he stopped Ecuadorian Luis Hernandez (22-3-0, 15 KOs) in the first round. April 17, 2009 in Primm, Nevada, he won a 12 round split decision over Said Quali. July 11, 2009 in Istanbul, Turkey, he stopped Jackson Osei Bonsu of Belgium (30-2-0, 24 KOs) in round nine. At the time, the WBC had Bonsu ranked #3.
Now that he’s in his prime, 23-0 and breaking people’s jaws, Aydin, with his puffed chest, is making overtures to some of the more famous pugilists. “Whoever crosses my way will end up just like brave Jo Jo,” said Aydin after the fight. “Floyd Mayweather, Devon Alexander – stop hiding, come fight me!”
