It seems like every month we’re celebrating another Boxing or MMA gym opening up in San Diego. The latest is Cital Boxing and Nutrition at 7323 El Cajon Blvd in La Mesa.

Their Grand Opening is set for Friday, September 16, 2011 between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. The facility is strategically located a fair distance from any competitor, three miles from Old School Boxing and a little over six miles from the Undisputed Gym in El Cajon.

The locale in which they’re situated has two nearby schools from which they hope to draw recruits for their boxing team, Crawford High School and the Horace Mann Middle School. After getting their team well schooled, the plan is to hit the road and compete within the USA Amateur ranks, not just locally but statewide and inside Mexico.

Brandi Augustine, Ph.D.

The Co-owners Jose Aguilar Cital and Brandi Augustine, Ph.D., are bi-lingual and have many close contacts within the boxing community.

Dr. Augustine has almost 10 years experience as a nutritionist, providing support and guidance to everyone from athletes to the chronically ill. With the combination of her unique nutritional program and the coaches’ physical training, she’s able to provide clients with the tools needed to harness their maximum potential.

With 10 years of boxing experience, Aguilar has competed as an amateur both in Mexico and the US. Four years ago, he switched his emphasis on being a personal trainer and since he’s found the experience more fulfilling, he plans to follow that path.

Aguilar: “What we bring to the area is our Mexican style of boxing which is legendary. Mexico has had over 170 world champions. What we’re going to do is do all our talking in the ring. Cital Boxing is going to be a neighborhood gym, and we’ve set our prices to fit the budget of our neighbors. And since Brandi is a professional nutritionist, she’s going to sit down with each member and give them a free personal assessment. Then she’ll suggest how they can live better.”

James Thomas III, 31, is the Cital’s head boxing coach. Thomas has some impressive credentials. In 2009 he was the California Golden Gloves champion. With his experience as both a boxer and trainer, he has worked in multiple gyms. Talk has it that Thomas will be turning pro soon.

Stephanie Salvatierra

Other members of the gym include: 19 year-old Estefania “Finita” Salvatierra, another boxer/trainer, Ryan Jellison, an accomplished USA amateur boxer, who’s currently riding an impressive winning streak and Corey Snyder who is presently the team captain of their Boxing Team.

Corey Snyder is currently the Cital Boxing Team Captan.

Alan Sanchez and Freddie Franco III help each other when it comes to their intense sparring sessions.
