ESPN2 Friday Night Fights at Pechanga Resorts April 15th
Friday, April 15, 2011, Art Pelullo/Banner Promotions in association with the Pechanga Resorts Casino, will present a sensational fight card in the Grand Ballroom at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, CA. The Main Event features two Junior welterweights with heavy hands in a 10 rounder.
IVAN POPOPCA of CHICAGO, Illinois by way of Guerrero, Mexico (15-0-1, 10 KOs) versus RUSLAN PROVODNIKOV (18-1-0, 12 KOs) from Ekaterinburg, Russia.
As they say, styles make fights,
and ESPN2 has put together two of the most aggressive junior welterweights in the sport, Popopca and Provodnikov, the WBO Intercontinental Light Welterweight title holder.
In the CO-FEATURE, a 10 ROUND LIGHTWEIGHT BOUT, they're featuring
MARVIN QUINTERO of Tijuana, B.C., Mexico (21-3-0, 17 KOs) versus JUAN SANTIAGO of Denver, Colorado, (13-6-1, 8 KOs).

In his last two fights, Quintero beat Lowell Brownfield (11-6-1) in February and got knocked out last November by southpaw, Daniel “The Prophet” Attah in the second round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. His other losses came to Balam Castellanos (now out of boxing) and later he fractured a bone in his hand in a bout many people thought he was winning versus the veteran, Tyrone Harris.
Santiago has lost to Diego Magdaleno, Vernon Paris, Archie Ray Marquez, Eloy Perez and in his last bout (four months ago) he lost by unanimous decision to Donaldo Holquin. In his 13 wins, Santiago has only beaten five boxers with a winning record.
6 ROUNDS – CRUISERWEIGHTS
DAVID JOHNSON of Los Angeles (5-21-7, 0 KOs) versus GARRET SIMON PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON(7-0-0, 6 KOs)
Simon, who stands 6’5” tall, last fought on February 25. He has a TKO victory over everyone he’s faced except for Lamont Williams. Johnson has been everyone’s whipping boy, losing twice to Chris Areeola, once to Travis Walker, Chazz Witherspoon, Mika Gergen, Manuel Quezada and Damian Wills. Even with a horrendous record, he fought for and won the little known WBE Super Heavyweight crown.
4 ROUNDS – HEAVYWEIGHTS
DANNY WILLIAMS of Modesto, CA (making his Pro Debut) VS DANNY GONZALEZ of Ontario, CA. (1-1-1 KO) of ONTARIO, CA.
6 ROUNDS – WELTERWEIGHTS
WILLIE WALTON of Salt Lake City, Utah (4-3-0, 4 KOs) VS DASHON JOHNSON of Escondido, CA, (11-4-3, 3 KOs).
4 ROUNDS – LIGHTWEIGHTS
DANNY RUIZ of Riverside, CA (making his Pro Debut) vs William Fisher of San Bernardino (0-2-0, 0 KOs).
4 ROUNDS – JUNIOR FLYWEIGHTS

On March 30, 2011, Katarina De La Cruz and her youngest of four children, Rafaella, were in San Diego at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel awaiting the weigh-ins for her Thursday night bout with Amaris Quintana. Photo: Jim Wyatt
KATARINA DE LA CRUZ of Los Angeles (2-6-1, 0 KOs) vs. CINDI AMADOR of Riverside, CA (2-0-0, 0 KOs).
De La Cruz is the same gal who disappointed Amaris Quintana on March 31 when she pulled out of the fight at the last minute. In October of last year, in her debut, Amador beat Blanca Raymundo who is now 0-3.
4 ROUNDS – LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT
MICHAEL GAVRONSKI of Tacoma, Wash. (2-0-0, 2 KOs) VS TYRELL “Hollywood” HENDRIX of Los Angeles (5-1-1, 2 KOs) of Los Angeles, CA.
Somethings got to give here as the two gentlemen are at the beginning of their promising careers. Gavronski, a super middleweight, has never fought as a light heavyweight and if you check out Hendrix on Facebook, it looks like he’s already gone Hollywood.
