Danny Roman on 12 fight winning streak, Giovani Santillan goes for win number 20

Three gentleman who always guarantee it's going to be an exciting show.

Danny “Baby Face Assassin” Roman, Giovani “Gallo de Oro” Santillan and Erick “All American Boy” Ituarte, three gentlemen who when on your fight card guarantee it’s going to be an exciting night of boxing.

World ranked super bantamweight Danny Roman (20-2-1, 7 KOs) puts his 12 fight winning streak plus his WBA-NABA Title on the line against the 31 year-old Victor Proa (28-2-2, 21 KOs) on Friday, November 18 in the Thompson Boxing Promotions 10-round main event at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Calif.

Roman, who currently occupies the No. 5 spot in the WBA rankings, is coming off a one-sided, unanimous decision victory over Enrique Quevedo in August. The 26-year-old Los Angeles native will be making his fourth start this year and fifth title defense. “I’ve stayed busy throughout the year so I know I’m going to come out sharp against Proa,” said Roman. “We’ve added a few new things during training camp and I’m excited to test them out against an experienced opponent like Proa.”

In Proa’s last outing, July 30, 2016, he got stopped at 1:07 of round two by 23-year-old southpaw Joseph Diaz (22-0, 13 KOs) from Monterrey, Mexico. At this point, Proa is hoping a victory over a ranked opponent like Roman would improve his ranking and put him right back on the track. “I know I’m the underdog coming in, but it doesn’t make any difference to me,” said the 31-year-old Proa. “Roman will try to out-work me, but I won’t let that happen. He’s going to be in for a tough fight.” Proa’s other loss was to Raul “La Cobra” Martinez who also stopped him early, at the 1:08 mark of round one. Martinez did the same exact thing as Diaz. He went on the attack early and as a result made the first defense of his IBA Super Flyweight Title.
In the 8-round co-Main Event, they have undefeated junior welterweight Giovani Santillan (19-0, 10 KOs) from San Diego, Calif. going for win #20 against Miguel Angel Mendoza (23-9-2, 22 KOs) from Aguascalientes, Aguascalientes, Mexico. To say San Diego is proud of Santillan is an understatement. Santillan, a southpaw, has made huge strides after spending a considerable amount of time sparring with Timothy Bradley earlier in the year plus he was a part of the Floyd Mayweather rotating mix of sparring partners back in 2015. “You improve the most when you go one-on-one with the best,” said Santillan, the former NABF Junior 140-pound champion. “I’ve had a chance to box with some of the best and the experience has given me a great deal of confidence. I respect Mendoza like I do all my opponents, but there’s no way he stops me on November 18.”

In an 8-round special attraction, junior lightweight Erick Ituarte (15-1-1, 2 KOs) of Santa Ana, Calif. once again brings his fearless style to the ring against Alejandro Ochoa (7-12-2, 1 KO) of Michoacan, Mexico. The 21-year-old is currently on an eight bout winning streak going back two years. That being said, Mr. Ituarte found himself in an all-out brawl on June 24th of this year when he faced the 26-year-old tough as nails Daniel “Huracan” Ramirez of Tijuana. Ituarte went down in round one. Ramirez went down in round three and then Ituarte went back down in round five. San Diego boxing fans might remember “The Huracan.”

Ramirez came to San Diego's Crowne Plaza on July 25, 2014, on a Bobby D Presents fight card. He ended up stopping San Diego's Aaron Garcia with a fourth-round TKO to win the vacant USA California State Super Featherweight title.

Daniel Ramirez (r) fought several times in Tijuana and then came north to San Diego’s Crowne Plaza on July 25, 2014, on a Bobby D Presents fight card. He ended up stopping San Diego’s Aaron Garcia (l) with a fourth-round TKO to win the vacant USA California State Super Featherweight title.

In other action, undefeated bantamweight prospect Rudy Garcia (3-0, 1 KO) of Los Angeles will test his burgeoning skills against 21-year-old Luis “Chacal” Almendarez (3-4) from Tijuana, B. C., Mexico in a four rounder.
Opening the show is former amateur standout Michael Dutchover (1-0, 1 KO) from Midland, Tex. Dutchover, who turned professional last month with a third round KO win over Cesar Partida, is promoted by both Thompson Boxing and Banner Promotions. Dutchover will face Sergio Campos from Bakersfield, Calif. who is making his pro debut.
Earlier this year, Dutchover was still a senior at Midland High School, in Texas.

They sure grow up fast in the world of boxing. Earlier this year, young Michael Dutchover (bottom right) was still a senior at Midland High School in Midland, Texas. Photo left, Dutchover is a promising, professional boxer.
