Thirty-one year old Cristian Favela of Los Angeles, CA by way of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico is a journey man welterweight boxer who has won just three times in his last 19 bouts. However, over his 13 year career he has only been stopped once. Back on August 18, 2007, Favela’s corner threw in the towel after nine hard fought rounds against Zaid Zavaltea (16-2-2).

His opponent tonight, Mauricio Herrera (16-1-0, 7 KOs) lost only once, a disputed split decision back on December 4, 2009 to Mike Anchondo (30-2-0) in which one of the judges had Herrera the winner 79-73. Since that time he has won three straight to include an impressive win for the IBF North American light welterweight title over the formerly unbeaten Ruslan Provodnikov (17-0-0). The name Provodnikov should ring a bell. He’s the Russian who just manhandled Ivan Popopca at the Pechanga Resort and Casino two weeks ago on April 15th.
