Boxing Stars of the future to battle it out at Sweetwater High

The Community Youth Athletic Center of National City is set to host the National City Amateur Boxing Championships, Saturday, October 3, 2009 at the Sweetwater High School, 2900 Highland Ave., National City. With young fighters coming from all over, some from as far as Las Vegas, this is your chance to see the future headliners in the sport. After all the sparring, punching of bags and sweat, the young boxers are ready to showcase their talent. Perhaps the next Rocky Marciano, Julio Caesar Chavez or Floyd Mayweather, jr. will be amongst the partipants displaying the results of their dedication and determination in mastering the different techniques and styles of championship boxing.

Representatives from most every youth organization will be there to compete in the fourteen scheduled bouts—boxers from the Guitierrez Boxing Club of South San Diego, Alliance Training Center of Chula Vista, Barry’s Boxing of Las Vegas, Nevada, National City’s CYAC, El Centro’s PAL, Porras Boxing of Fallbrook, Poway Boxing, San Diego’s Mongoose Boxing, Duarte Boxing Center of Pasadena, Barrio Station in Barrio Logan and Team Diaz of Carlsbad.  Each of these fine organizations has been instrumental in helping their local youth.

If you visit our local boxing gyms you’re likely to see many of today’s top ranked pro boxers working out, roll models like lightweight Mercito Gesta (16-0) at the Alliance Training Center in Chula Vista, light-welterweight Antonio Orozco (3-0, 3 KOs) at the National City CYAC, light heavy-weight Denis Grachev (9-0) and middleweight Chris Chatman (3-0) working out at City Boxing in downtown. In the gyms from Los Angeles, CA. to Tijuana, Mexico, now considered the heartland of professional boxing, you will find more boxers in the top ten of boxing than in any other part of the world.
