ABC Mongoose hosts the latest USA Amateur Boxing Show

The latest USA Amateur Boxing show took place Saturday in the heart of San Diego at the ABC Mongoose Gym on Market Street.
In Bout #1 they featured 15 year-old Robert O’Campo (120.8 pounds) of the host gym taking on 17 year-old Tyler Herberger (123.8 pounds) of Old School Boxing in the College Area.
With the nonstop, early exchanges, this one had all the markings of “the Bout of the Day.” While you had O’Campo on the inside landing the short but powerful right crosses and left hooks, Herberger’s only recourse was to take a step back and try to land his fully leveraged, overhand rights.
Because of the bout’s intensity, the fans really got into this contest. One such boxing fan started yelling, “Get mean! You can not be stopped!” Before you knew it, two 8-counts were issued to the unstoppable Herberger and O’Campo had the momentum by out-muscling his taller opponent.
In Round #2, Herberger took over the reigns and his punches were cleaner and had more bite. As a consequence, it was O’campo being issued the 8-count.
Then in Round #3, both fighters gave it all they had until there was nothing left in the tank. As far as the victor, O’Campo won by a mixed decision. One judge had it even and the other two had O’Campo ahead by a single point.
In Bout #1 it was Robert O’Campo of the host gym ABC Mongoose taking on Tyler Herberger of Old School Boxing in the College Area.
In Bout #2 it was the more polished boxer 16 year-old Carlos Renigio (132 pounds) of The Boxing Club in La Jolla, CA getting the win over 17 year-old Jose Olivera (131.2 pounds) of JSK (Jing Shen Kua shu – which in essence means – Spirit of Combat). It’s a new facility located on Garnett Avenue in Pacific Beach, CA.
Even with a bloody nose, Olivera never gave up hope and kept circling on the outside trying to catch Renigio whenever his hands dropped.
In Bout #2, it was Carlos Renigio (l) of the Boxing Club in La Jolla going up against Jose Olivera (r) of JSK in Pacific Beach, CA.
In Bout #3, it was 21 year-old Enrique Lopez (178.6 pounds) of Pound 4 Pound Boxing of Oceanside, CA, a southpaw, having his way with 25 year-old Joseph Berger (184.4 pounds) orthodox stance, of the host gym, ABC Mongoose.
It appears this was the first time that Berger had faced a lefty because Lopez was landing his left almost at will to pile up the winning points.
In Bout #3, it was Enrique Lopez (bottom photo, left) of the Pound 4 Pound Boxing Gym of Oceanside, CA going up against Joseph Berger (right) of the host gym, ABC Mongoose.
In the featured bout, they had two super middleweights, 19 year-old Hassan Fakhreddine (169 pounds) of Old School Boxing (College Area) going up against 21 year-old Christian Olivas (166.2 pounds) from Intensity MMA in South San Diego.
After Olivas had taken charge in Round #1, back came Fakhreddine in Round #2. With the fists flying in every direction, Olivas went off course and landed this low blow which prompted the referee Hondo Fontaine to call for an immediate stoppage and to give Fakhreddine sufficient time to recover. The referee then turned to Olivas and issued him a warning.
After being issued two additional warnings for low blows, a point deduction was given to Olivas. This development angered his coach Luis Lorenzo who then exchanged harsh words with the referee. Despite the distraction, Fakhreddine remained calm and focused and was able to finish the bout scoring sufficient points to win this slugfest.
Their’s was a bout that will be long remembered! The Hassan Fakhreddine (photo bottom right) of Old School Boxing earning a decision win over Christian Olivas of Intensity MMA in South San Diego.
